I recently got hold of a 30 litre shrimp cube at a liquidation sale for about a third of the regular cost. Unfortunately it's turned to have a 5cm (about 2 inches) crack in the bottom. Is it worth trying to repair it or should I just repurpose it for carnivorous plants?

You can repair it. What I would do is put a piece of new glass over the cracked area and silicone it on (silicone between the glass pieces and around the edge of the new piece, two step process). I've done this to repair cracked tanks for my frogs. The pressure will help seal the glass pieces together.

Thanks, I guess I just need a sheet of glass big enough to cover the crack then, maybe an inch or two on each side of the crack and the same extending along the line of it?

Thanks again:) That sounds easy enough, I think even I'll be able to pull that off and I'm not that great of a craftsman. I'll get around to that once I've emptied out the tank. The weird thing is that the wet spot on the paper backing on the bottom glass has disappeared now after the water's been in the tank since Sunday evening.
