Found this salamander on a job site, since it wasn't safe there for it anymore it came home with me. My daughter was delighted. She named it and watched over it and myself as I prepared the enclosure. Then she insisted that she be the one to put it in, and watched happily as cuppy explored it's new surroundings. 20201029_175856.jpg 20201029_175910.jpg

Refused food? That's odd for a Tiger. Damp sub and keeping cool-ish? (70f).

I'm guessing he's getting used to his surroundings, just bought worms. I'll try them today. Should I just turn some worms loose in the enclosure? Or try to dish or hand feed?

Sub is misted daily. Has a pool to swim in if it wants. Cork bark hide and enough sub to burrow provided as well

Misting is pretty useless. It'll only slightly dampen 1 or 2mm of the sub surface. You want all the sub to be damp so they can burrow and make tunnels. You can pre kill crickets/morios/roaches and tong feed. That way you know what has been eaten and you know they're not running around the enclosure. Earthworms you can tong feed too.

I used a pipette to moisten the sub deeper down. Still no go on food. I'll try again later. Right now it seems comfy in its hole

I personally don't think you need a pool, mole salamanders won't generally go in the water outside the breeding season. I also agree about wetting the substrate, though tbh if it's wandering around outside its hide at night I would think it's probably damp enough. I wouldn't worry too much about it not eating until it's had a few more days to settle in. Beautiful animal :)

My daughter is still very much enjoying watching the nightly strolls. She will be thrilled when it finally eats
