Today I finally went through with it and rescued this California Kingsnake that was being disowned due to the kid's loss of interest in their pet. I found out if he was truly aggressive or not, and I think it's mixed haha.

The first time I picked him up, he was completely fine. However, once I brought him home and took him out to put in some new hiding places, he did strike my finger and was pretty successful at it. He only bit me for like 5 seconds before letting go, and after that, he was completely fine with being handled. I'm trying to keep in mind that he is probably stressed out from all this, but he is a beautiful snake. I can see why people like them so much, I found myself liking this species better than both ball pythons and corn snakes. He might not be as long or as thick as other species, but they are so attractive to look at.

I named him Alduin after the dragon in Skyrim, the "World Eater" and main antagonist.

Nice looking snake! Good thing you got him!
Oh and just a heads up, when you rehouse a snake from a travel, no matter how far it is, let them settle for a day or so, that's probably why he bit you, he could have been stressed out!

But good snake overall!

Yeah that was the last time I handled him today haha, I originally took him out because his enclosure was incredibly basic and I wanted to give him a hiding place. I'll leave him alone for a couple of days.

Nice save! I wonder how old it is? It may grow quite a bit bigger if it's a juvenile.

How long does it take them to reach full length? This one is about 2-3 years old I believe.
It all depends on the snake itself, how much you feed it, etc. How long is it right now? And if you can weigh it in grams that will help too!

I want to say about 2-3 ft, but I haven't measured or weighed him yet as he just arrived today.

I do love Skyrim, and that is a classic looking cali king! Looks just like my little male, except he's probably 1/2 that size, lol.

Haha yeah, I have a tradition of naming my "creepy" pets after video game bosses. My tarantula is named Gohma after the spider boss from Zelda, my scorpion is named Moldarach after the scorpion boss in Zelda Skyward Sword, and now my snake is named after the dragon in Skyrim. xD

I love the classic cali king rather than that solid black morph with the vertical stripe, I just find it more interesting!
