Like so:
(choose either red or green, they should be the same!)

holding a measuring tape up to the screen you will also see the red line is also the same length if you go from 1 to 4 as well, so, does it really matter? Ive always gone from 1 to 4 too.

Yes, it does matter, and no, going from 1-4 on the same side will not give you the same measurement. The left side measurement would give you a longer legspan then a right side measurement in Lopez's very nice example.

Because ts tend to move their legs alternately, you'll get a more consistent measurement doing the diagonal.

Incidentally, if viewing at 1280x1024 resolution on a 17" monitor, my picture shows my (hopefully gravid) G rosea at exact life size :)

You also need to do this measurement while the T is in a normal stance, not while they are stretched out or scrunched up right?

Yes, you take the measurement while the spider is in a normal stance.

So I am understanding that there really is no standard and people do it different ways! Still as confused as I was before.~!!
I am only concerned because I have s'lings for sale and I want to give the most accurate measurement possible to potential buyers, so they are not shocked and angry because I have measured WRONG!!! and they did not receive what they thought they were getting.

Do like I do...just tell them the length of the body..from spinnerets to end of the carapace. You can guess the appr. size of the spider from that.It would be nice if everyone went by one strict set of measurement but everyone seems to have their own way of measurement...and it gets confusing...peace..

I'm not seeing the "everybody has their own way" at all.

Some European countries use *body* length. Everyone else does the 1-4 diagonal. Anyone doing anything different than those 2 methods never bothered to ask anyone else and is just making up a method.

As for selling slings, when you see a measurement from a dealer it is supposed to be the "normal stance, 1-4 diagonal". However with smaller slings, this is more often than not only a rough estimate.

This is why I only measure molts. You can stretch them out and get an accurate measurement. You may not know how big your T currently is, but you damn sure know how big it was. :)
