I got a look at the spermathecae of my Pamphobeteus ultramarinus girlie and she looks pretty mature to me. Thoughts? She’s about 4.5 in or so right now.

Looks like the spermathecae are mostly scleroticized. Maybe give it one more molt if you want to be sure. However, she might very well be mature. If I remember correctly, P. ultramarinus tends to be one of the smaller Pamphobeteus species, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Thanks so much, I appreciate the advice!

And yes, they are much smaller than most Pamphos.

If you are looking to pair her, you can put a bit of the male’s webbing near her hide/burrow entrance. If she’s ready, watch for her out searching and tapping. Also, shark tanking (I learned from NMT’s) can be an indicator.

Great tip, thank you!

are all the spider photos on your website taken by you? If so, very well done.

now i need to research “scleroticized”. Its my word of the day.

If you look at her molt, you might see that the spermathecae have darkened in color and hardened up, or scleroticized.
well that was quite informative. Sweet.

Thank you for the kind compliments..

I do take all my own photos! I just use a cheap macro lense on my iPhone and a little lightbox for the jumpers. I’m no photographer by any stretch of the imagination, but I think I’ve improved since I first started. Thank you!

We can all read quick even now and then. I am sure you picked up on that.

thing is, i learned a word with this thread. I had already seen it. Heard it. It was just never relevant for me, until now. This thread made me want to seek its full meaning. I am not breeding yet. Its a far in the future goal. Such words can mean nothing until you are ready to eat them.

i did say eat. Yep. Thats when you digest that word and absorb it in your day to day.

keep doing you. You cant go wrong that way. We cant be responsible for the version of us that exists in other people. And this is “texting” context. It does not always come out just as right.
