I just recieved a subadult male A. versicolor yesterday for breeding with my female, who is expected to molt in a few months. The problem is he molted into a mature male today, only one day after I recieved him!!!:wall: Will he be able to live for a few months until my female is ready to breed?

Keep him on a lean diet and not too warm, and that should slow his metabolism and buy you some extra time. I don't know how long the average is for avic males, though.

Mm

For breeding, you'd optimally want to breed within the first 6 months of becoming mature imo. So, maybe try bumping up the temps and feeding on your female and see if you can coax her along a little until her next molt. The farther he is from his ultimate molt, the less effective he'll be for breeding and will eventually just stop eating, slow down and fall apart. Hard to tell how long he'll actually live, depends on a lot of factors, but the important thing is to breed sooner rather than later. Good luck with the breeding, these are one of my faves and there's always room for more versi's!
