For those new to sexing adult T's, the photos attached are of a recently molted mature male Brachypelma vagans. Notice the hooks/spurs on the front legs and the enlarged pedipalp's used in mating. They also are usually thinner and more leggy in appearance. Mature Male B vagans 2.JPG Mature Male B vagans.JPG

Some new to this hobby may not be aware of the different color morps of the B. vagans.
See photos of my adult female with ebony/cinnamon legs & carapace with orange hairs on the legs and abdomen. The photo of the sub-adult shows the more traditional colors of a jet black carapace and legs with ruby red hairs on the abdomen. There are also two additional color morps identified for this species as well... Female B vagans 4 in (2).JPG B vagans 3 in.JPG

What are the other morphs? My juvenile looks more similar to your second photo. I love the stocky little Brachypelma.

The following article compares mainland (Yucatan) & Island (Cozumel) Mexican Red Rumps. Tap on to the photos of the article to see a closer picture and description of all discovered morps at that time in the regions specified.

Hard to find. Didn't find a single one when I was down there. I did find a pink toe that was someone's escaped pet that is now mine.

Apparently there is also a "colony" of Avics somewhere around there. I'd looove to see the vagans. Wish someone knew more about them. Apparently the people who know their exact location have been holding onto it pretty tightly. And I believe they are on private property. The whole thing is so fascinating, though.

Paired a young, first time female to an experienced male; paired her five times with same male to ensure fertilization of entire sac. Waiting on 2i molt to find them a new home...

Yep - and successfully paired her again that day for the 5th time. She did good for a first time breeder!
