My new mantis is always on the lid or at the top. He is sometimes on the sides but when I go to do anything, he tries to escape or goes on top of the lid. I have only feed once last week because he tries to escape. I have sprayed his tank. Is there any advice so I can try and feed him?

Is he just resting on the lid regularly or actively clawing/wandering around it? What is your setup like (pictures), what instar/sp. is the mantis etc.

Regarding the rushing to escape when you open the lid, I’ve had that occasionally (especially in smaller enclosures). If he’s visibly restless 24/7 then there could be an issue.

He is constantly on the lid or at the very top. He sits at the top a lot and moves once a day but not always. He is a jeweled flower mantis nymph. The shop I bought him from said they don’t keep track of in stars.

I went to take pictures and he let me spray. This is the first time he wasn’t freaking out running to the top of the lid

Never mind, he was super chill and he finally ate this week. I gave him a baby mealworm

Should I be worried about keeping track of instars? The shop said they don’t keep track of that when I bought it.

Completley normal, especially if it's a baby trying to sprint out whenever you open it, but even if not
