Mantis vs. pirates

I came home from work today and found a young visitor who had somehow wandered in and wound up on the kitchen table, which I have decorated with a "mega blocks" skeleton pirate ship (and yes, I am an adult with a home of my own and no kids)

Before setting my guest back outside, I took out my camera (how I wish I had macro...) and followed the little swashbuckler's daring assault on the undead...

(And they thought the octopus was trouble)

Upon conquering the topmost mast, the bold adventurer decided there was nowhere better to go and stood proud for a good fifteen minutes before the giant magic hand of insect transportation arrived bound for the backyard.

And just so this isn't the dumbest post ever made here, I thought I'd throw in some other invert photos I'd taken these past few weeks. Since I can't take really nice photos of such tiny things, I just didn't think they were worth putting up on their own:

Found this damselfly just this morning at work, actually.

This little sneak was gunning for my blood, but no such luck (I don't kill insects, even biters...he just didn't come back when I threw him in the air).

Ghost crabs from a couple of weeks ago when I visited Ocean City MD.

Waterbug thought she could escape out the filter hole.

This is the best post I've read all day!! The last pic of Jack the Mantis Conquerer is awesome... suitable for framing, even! {D

As for the little guy coming in to visit... has anyone else noticed that bug-nerds tend to attract bugs? No matter when or where... if a moth flies in the house, it lands on me; if there's a spider in the office at work, it appears in MY desk drawer, etc. etc. Call me crazy, but it's like they know who's going to squash them and who's going to carry them outside and let them walk peacefully onto a nearby plant. :?

I've noticed the opposite. The people who least want to see bugs are the ones seeing them!
