Whats with this current trend of people wanting to mix predatory inverts? Coincidence?

Don't underestimate the mantids....I've seen them tackle and consume prey much larger than themselves, including scorpions and spiders before.

Ooo I dont know about that. I've been keeping mantids for a few years now and even the big guys like t. sinensis and h. grandis couldn't put away a large hissing cockroach (i've tried). Both species swatted at it but ultimately kept running away. The grandis did eventually grab the roach in have it in a suspended position but dropped it after failing to eat the head reigion. I do believe the emperors exoskeleton is alot harder than the roach as well, not to mention its claws and telson! I dont know maybe if it was a very young scorpion... but two adults, I'd hate to say it, but that mantis is toast. Could be wrong, but thats my opinion! :}
