I have a mature male curly hair of about 4 years of age. I was wondering if any body that has experience with T.albopilosus knows if they can live past the 5 year mark? Thank you for any answers. (Please only answers from people who have personal experience, thank you)

I’ve owned similar NW species where the male lived quite a few years, rarely ate of course
And ultimately died attempting a molt post-maturity.
I never bet against Mother Nature it always beats man’s expectations generally

Hello there,

So yes , if your male matured recently then he can reach 5+ years. Had males that had been alive for 1-1.5 years after their last molt. But then again , I've had males mature and live anywhere from 2weeks to a month. So it really depends , you can't really predict it based on the species .

Best regards,

Matic

My mum had a MM T albo that was born MAR 2008 and passed away FEB 2014.
5+ year lifespans are possible, but with LOADS of care as they begin to slow down. During the final year of his life, the MM (which my mum named 'Curly Nyuk-Nyuk'; Three Stooges reference, LOL) ate nearly nothing and was very lethargic. He no longer was making sperm webs and we kept him going by raising his enclosure temp to about 80 degrees; in the low to mid 70s, he just barely moved. He also didn't want to eat much at all, so we crushed the heads of superworms and dubia for him and allowed him to scavenge after he lost the drive to hunt, which parted shortly after he matured and was loaned out to mate once. I believe he stopped eating in full during the last 4 months, and tried a surprising ultimate-ultimate molt in FEB 2014. Poor Curly however didn't have the energy to get a single limb loose and passed during the molt.
I hope my family's account can help you know what to expect. I'm not sure if Curly's life would have been longer or shorter if he didn't mate, but he did decline quickly.
