Congrats! What kind of snake? If it's a baby, you should keep it in a smaller container and move it as it grows. Personally, I prefer glass aquariums with tight-fitting lids. Remember you'll need an undertank heater and appropriate heat lamps (depending on your set-up).

You could do that with sterilite containers, but honestly you would be better off just getting a glass aquarium and a heat mat with a thermostat. I have gotten some really nice tanks with screen tops off of Craigslist.org for super cheap. So check that out and you shouldn't need more than a 20gal for a small Ball Python. Ofcourse you will need to upgrade it when it gets larger. Hope that helps

You could also check on youtube and see how to convert a second hand nightstand into an outstanding cage I did that when I bred Brazilian rainbow boas, they worked wonderfully.

I think for just one or two snakes... glass aquariums are fine

An adult ball python (even female) won't need a gigantic enclosure

Most people use 41qt (which are 36x16x7) up to to a 66qt (40x20x7)

And i too have switched to a rack system with containers..

the rack cost me 5 sheets of 36x16 melamine shelving board @ 12$ each(lowes)

1 36x36 cut square of pegboard for the back @ 6$

3ft of 4" heat tape @ 10$

Rheostat/dimmer from lowes @ 5$

3 thermometers with external probes @ 9$ local pet store

and of course a little time to put it together, using the 41qt boxes and it's great for medium sized snakes.

up until my plans for more snakes.. I was dead set on nice, see through enclosures.
