Well. My temps exceeded too at the start and i just mounted the lamps further away and checked the temps all the time until i found the right place and heating is now perfect. I use regular lamps and big heating lamps depending on the size of the enclosure and the desired temperature. Maybe it´ll cost a few € more on the electric bill or so but atleast my animals have right temps

if its so hard to contrlo temps, then let me sugguest that you invest in a digital thremostat...these will automaticlly control your temps..also these can be bought usally at any reptile shop...just set the desired temp and it will automaticlly shut off and turn on, so that the temp stays the same....hopefully that helps

I will most likely just move the lamp further away. I am not completely stupid, just have a lack of room....in my room. Thanks for the input though!

Why don´t you use some other lamp that doesn´t produce as much heat
as the infrared does?

Well, I was trying to make a heat box, because I was told that the high temps will make them molt faster. And they are from texas so you would figure they would be use to that temp... Guess not.

Wow, thats good information... It would make sense though. Because they have had no real exposure to REAL heat. That should be in a care sheet or something...

It makes perfect sense! :worship:  :worship:

Bro,
buy a $5 thermostat, $2-3 wire at home depot and wire it to your heat lamp or have somebody that knows how to wire do it. You could probably ask somebody to draw you a diagram and you can wire it yourself.

The life experiences of one animal are not going to alter millennia of evolved biology. The poster that noted that this species normally only comes out at night, when it's likely as much as 10-20 degrees cooler, if not more, is more likely correct. During the day they would be in cool, dark hiding places.

Also, trying to force animals to molt faster is just plain unhealthy for them. You do realize you're shortening their lives? :(

I don't understand why people use hotboxes anyway:confused: :wall: . It excells the development of your scorpion, yes. But it also decreases life span, because your scorps are adult much faster......

Let nature do it's work en let them develop in a normal rate....

That's a very good point. You wont enjoy your scorp nearly as long....
