Hey all! Got a Cobalt Blue today and rescued what I was told was a Madigascar Roach from the enclosure. Please help me ID this.

It looks like a madagascar hissing cockroach to me. Gramphadorhina portentosa.

No hssing when I grab it. Do they need to be older or a certain sex? I love this because it is my Wife that said save it and now will let me do Dubias as a feeder!

Femles don't hiss nearly as much as males do.

That's a mature female.

yeah, males hiss as a defense thing and also while fighting. Females dont hiss as much. Plus, they almost stop hissing all together if you handle them. I think they just figure there's no point in putting in the effort.

Definitely an adult female G. portentosa. Adult males have more of a rough, saddle shape to their thorax.

Roaches have a thorax? You mean pronotum... ;)
The thorax is made up of three segments the prothoraxm mesothorax, and metathorax. Each segment has four sclerites; the groups are the notum (upper), the pleura (sides), and the sternum (underside). So the pronotum is the upper schlerite on the prothorax.

I would simplify that and just say subadult and adult males have horns.

You can ventrally sex these just like you can with B. dubia as well.
