Hey. I have been keeping this species of roach for a very long time. Right Now I have 17 Adults that I got and about 20-25 babies. I have recently Noticed that they don't breed like they did when I first got them. I been experimenting with several Food types and so far they thrive best on lettuce. The problem with the lettuce is that they do eat 90% of it but the left over attracts tons of fruit flies and turns the tank into a moldy/ fruit fly infested mess. So recently I have been trying Apples... bread....Some cereal...ect. They don't really seem to be eating what I feed them More just nibbling on it. What Should I do? Remove the tanks soil and just use lettuce because it works the best, Or just keep trying new things till I find something that they like?

(how come it doesn't give me option to attach pictures anymore??? it also won't let me use the smiley faces)

there definatly fruit flys theres a window near the tanks, also I was digging around my garage and found one of those pads you put under the tank and it makes it hot. I put it on earlier today and I just came down to see how its doing and one of the females is laying on a slice of bread with an eggcase half way out of the back of her abdomen!!!{D . Out of Impatients how long does it take after The eggcase is sucked back in do the babies come? Thanks

Put the lettuce in a shallow dish, then it will be more or less all in one place when you need to remove it. Even if they move some it should be less of a mess, that is what we started doing with my B. latteralis and it worked.

Recently Moved them into a 10 gallon tank and put a 50w heat lamp over on one side of the tank. Put 4 paper towel rolls in and one of those have cut pieces of wood to hide under. They also have a branch that goes to the top of the tank to hang out on. Its amazing how much more active they are now that they have heat source. Every other minute one male roach walks into the other and theres an all out war. Hope the heat rapidly increases amount of breeding that is going on. I Will post of picture of the new tank when I get a chance.
Thanks

Eric

(also is 80 degrees fahrenheit not hot enough? I heard that it should be 85-92 and if so does a 75w bulb do that? Thanks again!)

You may be surprised to find out that the temperature in Madagascar is Average 59 to 71F degree. The relative humidity there is average (almost no changes over the year) 75 to 80%. The average wind speed there is average 8 to 10 miles per hour.

Nevertheless, If you want to make your pet hissers to breed like crazy like a rabbit, then, you might want to keep the tank? temperature between 80 and 90F degree (some also says between 85 and 90F). This figure is based on the many professional commercial hisser breeders in America.
please check the link i've posted
cheers
