I got 5 mature roaches back in May, and the two females I got were gravid. However, one aborted her clutch, and I found a "piece" of another earlier this month(I think it was the rest of the ootheca of the one I found before, as that one did not seem complete). If the other one is still gravid, why no babies yet? I keep them at room temperature and I'm pretty sure the room they're in is slightly warmer than normal at times. If you want the setup, I can describe it. It's basically a plastic container slightly smaller than a shoebox with lots of cardboard inside. They're fed dog food and are watered by Fluker's Cricket Quencher.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am tired of spending money on crickets to feed my Emperor Scorpions! {D

They need to be warm enough, clean and have a varied diet. In the winter months mine don't reproduce. In the summer when temps in the enclosure are close to 80, I get hundreds of babies. I have about 30 adults, mostly females. I use a parrot feed mix as a primary feed and add ripe fruit in a separate dish, esp bananas, and that's about it. I use cardboard egg cartons so they have plenty of hiding space. I raise the babies to about an inch and feed them to my T's.

Normal incubation is 6-10 weeks.

You could not have been sure they were gravid, as a heavily fed female hisser will elongate and get "fat" similar to being gravid in apearance.

Hissers can double-clutch, they produce on ootheca in the ovary chamber and incubate one in the brood chamber in thier abdomen, so if one ootheca is lost another may well be in its place.

Patience, 80'F temp +/- a few, mist once in a while, moist food to eat (or water gel with dry food) and you will get loads of nymphs.

5 adults is a very small number to start with. The more you have the faster they are to reproduce.

I'm positive they were gravid. They were indeed elongated and fat. The entomology professor from my school has tankloads in his office and gave me these females saying they were gravid.

Demand a refund!! {D

Seriously though, the above info will sort out the problem, but I'd suggest maybe getting a different roach for the scorps..:? Something with a better meat / chitin ratio, perhaps? Just a thought...:D
