Could someone tell me how to sex the Gromphadorhina portentosa. The "horns" or bumps are the male's right and are called pronotum? and good way to tell if they are mature?

Yes, if they have the horns theyre male. The females have a slight bulge but nothing like the male. You can also tell by the segments on their butts. The females will have a big segment and the male will have a small one right before the... vent..dunno what a hissers butt is called :D
Id say the female can breed when shes about 2 inches. Ive separated some small females out with no males, and they had babies, I thought they were too small to have babies but they did.

sometimes after they gorge themselves on food they look gravid. Fat lazy miserable things... As they get older they do get slower. Too much bother dragging all that weight around I guess :D

All i know is that using sound as a deterrent is an awesome evolutionary trait. It even scares me and I know for sure they're not going to do anything to me.

Yes that is a very good point, I was holding mine and it started to hiss. Scared the leaping lizards out of me lol. I too knew that it wasn't actually gonna do anything but still, scary!

when you have a decent number in a container it's very interesting to hear them crashing into each other and hissing at each other. it really sounds like they are talking sometimes :)
