A couple weeks ago I went to a pet store where I normally buy crickets for my tarantulas and something caught my eye, it was a 3 foot Leioheterodon madagascariensis. Now, I'm not new to keeping reptiles by any means but I haven't kept in years, but this is the first time in quite a while that I've been thoroughly impressed by something with a backbone.
I'm curious though, has anyone else kept these? Is $100 a good price?
And lastly from what I understand they prefer to eat frogs/toads, are they easy to convert on to mice? The manager of the reptile says he successfully done it before, but I wonder how easy it is for snake at that age :? .

Although I have not kept the Giant Hognoses, I have kept the Malagasy Speckled before and they were very easy to keep IMO...they feed on rodents readily if they are healthy (since it is WC, be sure to get rid of internal parasites if they are present)...the store owner was probably thinking of the NA native Eastern Hognoses, whose diet does consist almost solely of frogs/toads. $100 is a decent price if it healthy.

Thanks for the help.
They had both this species and Leioheterodon modestus, they were both $100 and around the same size (3 ft) although the Giant was much more robust. I got to handle them both and they were both extremely active (to the point where they were difficult to handle), and seemingly very healthy.
I was concerned because they were both being fed green tree frogs.
