I am going to be getting a M. Gigas soon but it seems extremely difficult to find any sort of information on just what kind of climate/conditions they prefer. I know they are from the Ryukyu islands and probably really really similar to the Vietnamese, Taiwanese Macrothele variety but some specifics would be helpful. I will be keeping it in a locking 12" Neodesha cage (meant for venomous snakes) with a kritter keeper inside while it's a sling.
It would seem these primitive mygalomorphs live in every single kind of climate and temperature under the sun. Some seem to like it cold while others fairly warm.
1. Humidity? Mist everyday? I'm assuming adults can drink from a shallow waterbowl?
2. Sydney Funnel-Webs don't seem to care if they have deep substrate but many other related species do? Depth recommendation?
3. I was going to assume they prefer it damp and cool but like I said, specifics are nice. How cold or hot can these guys go?
Please any advice is welcome. Thanks.
