After not seeing my M. giganteus for 7 months or so, I gently lifted up her log to make sure she was still alive, especially since nobody was eating the crickets I'd occasionally tossed in. I was very surprised to see that she had a huge egg sac! I immediately left her alone so as not to disturb her any further. This was a big surprise and I'm not quite sure what to expect in terms of care. Any advice would be appreciated!

Congrats on becoming a spideymama!

Are you gonna let them pop with mom?
If not, and you pull them during the EWL stage, you'll need an incubator.

If not, you have quite the job rounding them all up in mom's enclosure later.

I'm definitely going to wait for them to hatch and dig themselves out of their mother's burrow. From what I've read it's going to be a few more months of waiting, and hopefully most of them make it! The thought of little vinegaroon babies makes me excited. I just hope she doesn't eat her egg sac. I hope I didn't disturb her too much.

Oh whoops, I assumed this was a T. 😆
You shouldn't pull the sac or round them up, as they attach to mom and develop, kinda like scorpions

"Yet we do know their life cycle. It begins with an egg phoretic larval stage leading to 4 free-living larval instar stages, and an adult stage (Schmidt 2009)."

Definitely leave it in my opinion. the few species of vinegaroons I have kept were all quite exceptional mothers. and they dont seem to be as harsh to each other as many spiders.

when I had babies, I waited til they turned dark and left the back. I also fed prekilled crickets and left them out side their hiding areas entrance as not to risk a rogue kamakazee cricket stressing her to eat the babies.

Congrats! I find little vinegaroons one of the cutest arachnid babies out there! And way more manageable than most other arachnids as well :)
