Ok, so maybe someone could explain it to me... Whats the big deal? almost 300 for slings? I'm a little lost. I didnt read too much about it, but I took a look at a couple of pictures... looks like it changes colors a bit.. kinda like a lividium when its in a picture, and a velvetosoma in person. It also looks like a webber, which is definately not my thing.
how big do they get? why are they so sought after? Am I the only one or does this seem to be the T, that in my opinion replaces the rariety of the B. Klaasi, or the A. Purpurea, or Even the Pulchra that years ago couldnt even purchased without extensive searching and good luck? Shoot, Just over a 1.5 years ago, I paid $500.00 for my Pulchra, now there sold as pairs for $400.00. Dont get me wrong I'm proud of my Pulchra, but Doesnt it seem like everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to get these guys? Maybe its just the name,,, Balfouri, sounds like a hockey player, or Like G. Rosea, Everybody loves those things it seems... Drives me Crazy,,, If somebody wanted a T, and this was there pick, they need to contact me, I'd be glad to purchase someone a much better First T than a Rosea.
I was even looking at the old top 10-12 wish list, it seemed like everybody and there brother wanted this thing... Sorry for the rant and rave, I'm actually very sensitive tonight, I just dont get it... Perhaps its simply not my Cup of tea, kinda like those Asian T's in my opinion What a Waste.
So lets forget that I seem to be totally against these things, could someone please try to muster up some conviencing words that would change my mind about these guys?

I think that for the most part people are jumping on the "oooh, thats rare and expensive" band wagon. They are for the most part going to be much more expensive than klassi and pulchura due to thier apparent difficulty to procure a sac from.....and make reportedly small ones at that. Combine this with it being an island sp., making WC specimens scarce, and sounds like it will be in demand for sometime, though for some it is "in" for less worthy reasons. I dont think the balfouri will b availible like some rare "buzz" T's for quite some time. Unless the economy picks up and the average breeder can start picking up groups......;) I have to side with you though, despite its contrast, rarety, and demand, it does "seem" like many that have come in the last 4-5 years that went for $200-$400 in there fist year and mow fetch for under $100. As stated though, I doubt they will be coming down in price or becoming a commonplace on dealer lists very soon.

Just wondering what's so bad about Asian T's? I don't have any, but was considering a Chilobrachys sp. Should I reconsider?

I love Asian T's, and I have a Chilobrachys huahini. It's a very active, cool T, and very aggressive. It's always doing something interesting, whereas the new world T's seem to just sit around more. I say go for it! :)

You obviously have very specific tastes. Other people have different tastes. Is that O.K. with you? It's O.K. with me.....

It' an opinion. A lot of people like blue tarantulas. You can't ever "get it" because, like von z said, your specific tastes are not geared towards them. I personally think they are stunning but will not pay that much for ANY sling unless it has some magical way of spinning straw into gold.

You paid 500$ for a pulchra :? and you say that 300$ is to expensive for a bafouri:confused:

balfouri look like velvetsoma in person:confused: obviously you never seen them live and you have no idea what they really look like.

Btw I paid my pulchra 60$ and got rid of it cause grammostola are the most boring spider in my opinion.

just be patient, it shouldn't be long before you can get these for under 200... maybe by the end of the year hopefully. i got 5 and didn't pay nearly what the going rate is for them.....remember the sing blues, lol...

if you want rare i think there are better ways to go. but if you like blue, these are beautiful...price is relative mate...can you imagine if all the hobbyists got together on the same page, a dictated what we would pay for what??? now talk about history in the making:liar:

I've seen a lot of instances where the rare and sought after species are coveted by the lesser known members of a hobby or group to gain recognition.I think that happens less on arachnoboards, than in some herp forums, where the climate is more brutal. For me,I appreciate blue tartantulas, but I like Poecilotheria,so to me a P.metallica is more desireable than M.balfouri.I like them and have them on my wish list(M.balfouri),but I know they are not the most visible T to own and they aren't going anywhere.I'll wait it out for the more expereinced keepers to establish them and the prices to drop or at least the availability to increase.I feel somewhat of a responsibility to let the few that are here now be in the hands of advance hobbiest, that have a better chance at breeding them, rather than selfishly hoarding a specimen or few to meet my desire to ''own'' the T.I also think that more common species are equally or more attractive and I am happy with a very common T,if its colors and habits suit me and many do.I don't own P.metallica either,b/c I am growing my collection on easier to buy/find Ts,before I focus on the uber expensive ones.Just my method of operation. If they become as common as G.rosea is not, before I can afford them or want to afford them....so be it...I have to be attracted to the T and not its status int he hobby.

Just because his preference is different from yours he should jump out a window??? :? I don't own any asians but that is just because I find them boring. Different folks with different strokes that's all.
I stand corrected I own one, and I am not really sure why I still have it.
