Ok, I have spoken personally to several reputable keepers/breeders of this species and most have told me that M. balfouri have been observed living communally in the wild.

Is this pure rumour?

Are there any papers written on this subject? Have any photographs been taken to put this issue to bed?

I've heard this too. These are rumors, especially if we can't find any scientific research to support this. To be fair, I think they've been minimally observed, scientifically speaking, in the wild, in general.

I was told by a very reliable source - a döner kebab vendor that when young was a fresh-water seller in Socotra, Yemen - that there aren't valid nor strong enough proofs for claim that :pompous:

This is a topic that I think could benefit from some field study :p

Not sure about photos, but I know BirdSpidersCH on youtube has lots of footage of various species in the wild, it wouldn't surprise me if he had videos of M. balfouri!
I've checked. Nope. I have not seen any photographic evidence of this. Maybe time for a field trip which would involve flying to Cairo and taking a once a week flight to Socotra..........Out of my budget and time slot at the moment.

Didn't Tarantupedia did a video of them in the wild? From what I see they seem more solitary than communal in the wild.

This one in particular?
