Well, yesterday i woke up and i had 5 insect bites on my leg running from calf to special bits they itched and burned like mad but i just wrote it off as a house spider or something like it in my sheets. This time of year when it starts to get cold it isnt uncommon for all the critters to come inside and enjoy the warmth. Thinking im having a normal day, i check on my tarantulas and my LP (~1/4) is missing (tank is completely sealed except vent holes, it must have hitched a ride on the lid and ran when i went to check it one day), and i sifted through all the sub and searched and found no sign of it. So dejected and angry with myself for losing a T i go lay down on my bed to watch some TV and take my mind off of it. Well thats when i saw the little LP in my covers:eek: , it was apparently giving me love nips in the night, unfortunately the story doesnt end well, s/he escaped into a crack in the floorboards in my attempt to catch it. Im sad because im probably never going to see it again:( now im stuck with a REALLY itchy leg and minus one T

i mentioned in this forum once that a T can be lured from somewhere if you put a cotton soaked in blood next to the crack/exit she is in. if she have other place to get out of the crack, you have to think of some way to send the smell of the cotton in the crack (like a fan not too close too the crack so the wind doesn't scare her) if she is in a no exit place, you place it there and when she comes out she will find it and try getting humidity from it. there is a big chance that you find her munching on it.

i promised writing if this method works or not. i'm suspecting it works 'cause i've found at least 3 times that the cotton was moved from its original place and marks on the cotton like if a fang pressed there. a dried cotton holds form very well. anyway, i didn't post yet 'cause i couldn't get mi A. fracta yet. i never catch her in the open, i just see the results. i'm suspecting it works, but i'm no lucky enough to get her :( :(

flushing your t out will not work they just go deeper into the hole. i found out an interesting way of catching Ts in holes is to tie a roach on a string and let it go into the hole, when you hear munching pull the string out. it really only works if you can see the T and you hafta pull really gently. in the tarantula keepers guide it says that flooding burrows its a good way but it never worked for me, but my fishing method has always worked.

You could try to flush it out with water.
it would work if i didnt have nice hardwood floors and i already didnt get yelled at for fish tank water going through the celing. Unfourtunately at this point i've accepted the loss, but i do appreciate the suggestions. Who knows i may get "lucky" and it will bite me again and i'll wake up in time to catch it.

the pest control idea seems my best hope. ten years from now the floors will get redone and whoever does it will be in for a BIG surprise, kinda like the alligator down the toilet myth:liar:

it just came to my mind a pest guy just doing his work you know, or some guy redoing the floor, and that scen you know, kneeling, whistling doing his job, thinking about what wife did for lunch and then out of nowhere the LP crossing his path right in front of him :D

Seeing as you live up north, going into winter I think the odds of it staying inside are fairly high. By the end of winter, you'll probably find it. T's can go forever without eating, so just leave a water dish or two out and it'll probably live. They grow REALLY fast, so within a few months, it won't be so able to fit into cracks in the floor. The pest control thing sounds good. Especially if your neighbors have a dog or child that you consider a pest. They get big and eat ANYTHING. Seriously, good luck.

Being absolutely serious, with their growth, it is entirely possible it will get along picking up little prey items and one day you will see a much-larger-than-.25"-spider. Just keep your eyes out and maybe toss a small bug or two on the floor once in a while.

This will lead to a T comunal room, soon will have burrowers, arboreals everywhere in our rooms, we just need to open the door and toss little bugs into the room . ahahah would be pretty neat lol Try what Radamanthys said, i think u dont have nothin to loose!

Aaaahhh.... No.
I'd be far more inclined to believe that you are being bitten by enormous hairy gorillas than the little LP sling in the middle of the night. Travel recently and stay in a hotel? Maybe you brought bedbugs home.

Watch the room at night with a red lens taped over the ol' flashlight. You might get lucky and see either the sling or the giant leg-biting gorillas.

Try placing a damp cloth on the floor at night, near the place where your spider disappeared. Check under it each morning. I have had excellent luck with this strategy.

Good luck!
