Well i woke up this morning to find my young Ceratophrys cranwelli dieing for no reason. it just had pooped 2 days ago and ate yesterday. It seemed to be paralyzed and had super dilated pupils but still has able to open and close its mouth a little. I was pretty bummed and worried because i have other frogs that i am very concerned about because i don't know what caused it.

Anyways i went to show it to my girlfriend who is a mod on a frog forum and very knowledgeable about stuff of this nature and she too was pretty stumped as it looked to be alive but very obviously wasn't. So what does she do to make me feel better? She gives me an early anniversary gift which consisted of a hide, branch, big water bowl, fake plant, lamp and...........

a gorgeous 08 female Dumeril's Boa! (One of my top 3 favorite snakes)

Pics once it settles in.

I'm no expert but do think your frog died from chytrid fungus by any chance? If it was opening and closing its mouth a lot it could've been shedding, and excessive shedding is a sign of chytrid. Just offering an explanation. What about the possibility of chemical exposure? What did you feed it? Perhaps a high fat diet was the problem. Of course, that could've happened before you even got the frog. Improper temps?

Congrats on the new snake though.

All my frogs get treated for chytrid so i don't think it could be that. Chemical exposure... i don't think so? unless it was in his food item but i feed all my frogs the same food.

My frogs eat earth and dirt worms, roaches, crickets and sometimes other random insects i find at shows like horn worms, grasshoppers etc. (nothing wild caught) I don't think it is a temp problem because that would effect everything not just him. plus my room is in the low 80 with a slight drop at night. And when most frogs die they suck their eye into their heads and look dead. he looked like he was just chilling with his eyes wide open. it was odd:?

Here she is!

This is Tia, which is Malagasy for "Love" as she was an anniversary present.

To me it looks like she has the outline of a cow head on her head:}

Wow she is absolutely beautiful. That's too bad about your frog, but that is one amazing snake. If only we had the space...
