I've been extremely worried as I've lost my 8-10 month old tliltocatl albopilosus for maybe two or three hours now. I'm super new to spider-keeping, having only occasionally kept common house spiders until I bought one and brought it home just today. It's been half a day that I've kept her and now she's gone, and I'm not sure where or how to look. I've also got cats in the house and I'm severely distressed. I need as much advice and guidance as possible!!

The cats can be a big problem, I've heard a lot of stories of cats killing tarantulas.

Try looking at tight spaces that they could crawl into.

I hope where you keep her isn’t cluttered.

She can’t have moved far. Put a water dish out near her enclosure where you think she could have gone and wait.

Thank you!! The place isn't so cluttered but I am super worried in regards to the speed of a T. albopilosus. I know they're relatively slow but I have already turned everything upside down and rightside up in the room where I kept her enclosure, and I've had no luck as yet.

 Search Cracks, Crevices, Dark Nooks etc. :shy:
Night Search with Dim Flashlight, preferably Red light may yield results.
Naturally Nocturnal will be more Active at Night.

You need to look near the enclosure first, 1 meter square. Then you look along the walls and corners. And dark spaces.

cut off access to cats if possible until you find it.

you need to think like a terrestrial tarantula at this point. Its looking for a safe tight dark space.

if there was a garbage bin close, look in there.

it will crawl until it finds a tight space.

if cats got to it first, check their toy hiding spaces. Under couches and fridge.

if it was in a room that has a closet, look inside. Its reflex wont be to climb at first, but it can.

atleast its a t albo and not an arboreal or p murinus. Its going to be ok.

I feel for you I lost a T for about 6 months I knew where it was though just couldn't get to it until one day it was fully out the crack it went into and I managed to catch it. Was a P Regalis though and was double in size by the time I got it back. Escaped during a rehouse as a sling.

So how did it manage to escape? Did it definitely escape or has it burrowed in the enclosure? I feel like there is a lot of missing information here, did you have it out just roaming around or something?
