yesterday, my pet short tailed possum (M. domestica) died of natural causes. i had her for quite a while, and she will be dearly missed. she's now buried in my yard, along with two toads, a hamster and a chameleon.

thanks for the visual, ChrisNCT. hopefully no one will confuse short tails with virginias now.

Sorry to hear about your lost. Might I ask at what age did your possum die? Mine is still chugging along at the old age of 4, but I expect he will die soon (avg. age is 4-6).

i had her for about 2-3 years, and i was told she was 1/2 a year when i got her. however, she was fully haired and an inch max below the size she died at.

STOs are fully haired at about 2 weeks of age. Judging by your description of the size, the possum was in the 6-8 month range when you bought it. Having her for three years isn't bad considering how exotic these animals are. My vet didn't even know these were kepted as pets until I brought mine in to get it weighed.

Too bad STO cannot be sold in pet stores now (thank you pairie dog owners) as I wish more people will have these creatures for pets.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I had one for like almost two years and loved the little gal.

I'm sorry for your loss. I lost a sugar glider once for no apparent reason, I cannot say I know exactly how you feel for each grieving is unique, but I understand your sadness.

And for those people that didn't understand what a short tailed possum is, not regular outside America possums! LIL midget ones....

i specified that it was M. domestica in the original post; problem is that not everyone is cleared up by this. you all should have seen the reactions i got in school when i got her.
