One of my small tarantulas has lost part of a leg.
I can't see him because he ran into his little clay
plot and would probably bite if I try to get him
out somehow. Do I need to do anything for
the leg stump? Will he probably bleed and die?
In the past I have put vaseline on leaky leg
joints on a tarantula and I was thinking of
that if I need to do something for him. Guess
I would have to put him in the fridge to be
able to look this one over. He got it caught
in the lid of the critter keeper as I was closing it.

Well if it doesn't stop bleeding you have to do something, You can put super glue on it or nu-skin type liquid bandage.

Where the stump is, he must have taken the rest
off and thats fine. There is a droplet on the
joint of another leg, That doesn't seem to
be running down the leg. I don't have any
nuskin, but will get some. In the mean time,
I chilled him about a min. and then tried
pinning him down on the table to put
some vaseline on it, but it was hit and
miss (none on the bottom lung area) because
he kept moving. I was surprised it hasn't
tried to bite.

I'd say if he threw the rest of the leg off, he'll probably be ok. What size are you talking about? They are pretty good about being able to seal the hemolymph flow off.
Slings can 'bleed out' fairly quickly, so if he's still running around, I'd say you're good to go..
