I just found out that my beloved cat "Rascal" has passed on this evening. :(
We've been having trouble with her recently with not wanting to eat and having a hard time getting around. We come to find, after she's already passed on in my sister's arms, that she had liver failure and there's nothing we could have done. I just felt so helpless and I still can't get over the fact that she's gone now. :8o This has been the first time I've cried in years....you never really know the pain until you lose a pet you love this much. That's enough ranting from me now.

I'm really sorry to hear that, I lost my first cat about 5 years ago to liver disease. I had moved back home after breaking up with a boyfriend and the first thing I did was pick up Fluffy to cuddle him. He felt like a bag of air, he was so light! I immediately took him to the vet who ran some bloodwork. There's no cure for liver disease, and the vet told me he eventually would just stop eating.
We decided to bring him home and have him put down when it became obvious he wasn't happy. After a few weeks he became ravenous. He'd eat constantly, even biting our fingers when we fed him, something he never did before. He'd jump on the countertops while we were cooking and try to eat the food we were preparing, also something he never did. At that point we decided he was suffering too much and I took him to the vet. The vet brought me to a private room where I said my goodbyes. Afterwards, I took his body home with me to be buried on our property. I had to wear sunglasses the entire ride home so that nobody would see me cry. Hell, just thinking about it is making me cry again.

So sorry to hear about your kitty! Losing a friend is never easy, especially when you can literally see them wasting away.

I'm so sorry :(

I worked at a cat shelter and we had an old tabby that had liver disease. We had to put him down last year. It was horrible. It's so sad knowing there is nothing you can do for them except let them go.

Losing a pet I feel is like losing a best friend. My family is having a hard time right now because our cat has taken up urinating all over the house. We've had him tested for various things and it seems to be behavioral. We are going to have to put him down because he'll never stop doing it and he is clearly upset. We've had him 13 years. A good portion of my life. We keep putting it off, but it will have to be soon.

Sorry to hijack your thread. :8o

I'm sorry your kitty is gone. But, she is probably at peace now.
