Got a call from my girlfriend to come deal with a particularly large spider she found in my basement, so i'm hoping to get more information on it to make sure it's not venomous. I am in no way a spider expert or even a novice. Just wondering if I should do anything specific in my basement to repel this one or any others.

It's harmless, you can tell her to relax. While it is venemous (almost all spiders are) it isn't medically significant to humans.

The only two spiders in the continental U.S. with medically significant venom are the brown recluse and the black widow. Your spider is blatantly neither of those.

But you don't know the specific name for it?
