I am looking into getting a new lizard as a pet. How rough is it to take care of a frilled lizard? Also what kind of monitor would you recommend if I were to get one??? Thx

The Savannah Monitor is a good recommended monitor, however makesure you have enough room as it can grow up to 4 feet.

As for lizards, I'd go for the leopard gecko or a bearded dragon.

Why those??? Frilled Lizards look amazing...... And really interest me. And why are u guys recommending bearded dragons? I know they are fairly easy to take care of but... I don't know. Also I do like savannah monitors. I was also looking into nile monitors and black throat monitors? What do you guys think?

Frilled lizards scare me JUST A LITTLE when they are frilled.

Do you think perhaps they are descendants of the dinosaurs called "Dilophosaurus"?

If you want big try a tegu. I hope I spelled it right. Stay away from large monitors unless you have a lot of experience. I think most niles belong in zoos. They get big and can have an attitude. If your not careful you might loose a finger or worse.

I had a Nile monitor for about 4 years . Yes they do get big , mine was over 3 foot when i gave it away and wasn't even close to full grown . And yes they do have an attitude , not a lizard your gonna be able to handle much .If you do deside to get one (or any lizard)don't do a cage with half land half water even though they love the water. Mine use to get a lot of infection because of it , ones i got rid of the water he never got one again .
As for Savana's , they are eating machines . They will eat anything they can fit into their mouths . But an the other side , they are about the best monitor out there (IMO). If you handle them regularly they tame pretty easily . Also remember one other thing , what ever monitor you get your gonna need a very large cage . For a happy lizard i wouldn't go anything less the 2X the langth of the animal .

I think most people are recommending a bearded dragon because they are easy to maintain compared to other lizards. They're also a nice size, tame, and pretty cool to look at. If you are a beginner I'd start with something smaller than niles or tegus or just do a lot of research to limit exactly what you want.

Good luck with everything. :)

very true. after you have one for awhile some personality seems to come through as well. it's so easy to satisfy the dragon's dietary needs as well since he takes down all sorts of prey items and assorted readily available greens.

I have been looking into everything.... I am hitting up the regular columbus reptile show this coming saturday. I am most likely going to pick myself up a frilly. They just seem to catch my interest the most. I am not worried about him "frilling" up his neck. I think they are pretty cool animals and I do like how they look. Bearded dragon just doesn't catch my eye. I believe its frilly for me :D
