Fellas - I need to film a scorpion in the wild as filler footage for a film. (My friend is afraid of them). I have a Sony A7S, which is a good low light camera. Although, my lens won't be ideal. The iphone may end up being better. Day or night footage would work. I live in Orange County in socal and would be happy to meet up with one of you to do some filming.

Just head out to the desert and bring a black light (UV) they are pretty easy to find. Anza Borrego Camp @ Butterfield, Blair Valley or Aqua Caliente. (Stage Coach if you have an RV) Again, super easy to find.
Just get a lens that's F2.8 or lower for the A7S, which model do you have?

You are in ideal locations to drive to places to get good footage.

If you can’t risk it, because youre afraid of dieing in wild terrain (you should be), buy a scorpion, film it in settings. Then give it away as a freebie to a person who will answer over 12 questions, on scorpion carekeeping, and the species you picked.

Even better, ask a petshop for a scorpio loan.

You’re obviously doing this for a purpose, not because you are passionate about inverts like us. Chose the short road.

You must have a huge community of local scorpio keepers. Just go to a good shop and get contacts. Youll make good with your lens then. If its not that good in your prefered settings.

the camping locales I picked are all really flat (there are hills nearby) and he should have no problem finding scorpions. I've camped there many times and freaked people out with a black light at night.
It's a little under 2 hours from my home.

He can also make a run out to the mud caves which are super cool as well if he has a vehicle that can handle sand.

it's one of those things people don't realize about San Diego, there are 50 plus peaks over 5,000 feet about an hour from the Ocean. You can have breakfast on the beach, drive through snow capped, conifer forested peaks, and drop into the desert for Lunch.
You can hit close to every ecosystem (no jungles, no swamps) in. single day.

Youre all lucky, you americans 😒. You get the butter and the money from the butter. Here we get ice, snow and never really see the moose.

If i lived there, i wouldnt be asking here where to film. Id be asking how not to get caught filming for too long.

Anyone looking for wedding arrangements? Its up for grabs. Dowry comes from the groom. Or other bride, or other. Its 2024, i work too hard. I can’t work, and be expected to cook and clean at the same time. All the while, caring for the tarantulas, feeders and animals. Hunting, trapping, fixing the toilet, changing the light bulbs.. everything has a price.
