Looking for Information on a Spider

Hi. I might be posting in the wrong place here, many apologies if so. I am just hoping to find some information on a spider I have photographed in my yard. I have attached the photo. It is living in a messy web in a plant pot, looks awkward walking about, its about 2cm long which is unusually large for spiders around here. If anyone knows the species, I would be most grateful for your opinions. One friend said False Widow, a few others thought it might be a tick. It looks very much like a spider to me, rather than a tick.

It's a Steatoda sp. Don't know which one exactly.

I think it’s either S. borealis or S. grossa just going off of pictures but I’m not entirely sure on the difference between those two.
