I opened the enclosure to add water to my 5" L. Parahybana's dish and guess what was crawling on the walls?! I found about 6 baby mantis and I am sure there are more to appear. I guess an egg capsule somehow was in the peat that I used for "Sasha's" substrate and just hatched.
I see the big ones all around my house but I did'nt expect to find these little guys inside the terrarium with one of my hungriest T's! Lucky for them they are too tiny for her to snack on!
Here's one little squatter on my finger, and yes-I did release them all out in the garden.

How adorable. They make great pets, mine would eat bits of chicken from my fingers and they are very aggressive hunters as well. Not terribly long lived though :(

Yep, they are cool but as these were so small, I did'nt want to mess wth trying to find tiny prey so just let'em outside on the shrubs. Maybe they'll clear out some the aphids ! :D

That's rad. You shoulda kept several and kept a mantis enclosure for a while. Coulda been fun.

Where did this peat come from?

you should have trained them on how to work and make them your slaves.

Hey SNAFU -

Totally cute! Yeah, if you had kept them, being as small as they are, you'd have had to keep cutting their food for them and all.
 The one you have in the photo looks like the Lone Ranger! Good thing you're in Texas, he'll be right at home.

That is, until he mates. . . then he'll be the headless horseman! {D

Aaawww

That's one of the reasons I love living in Texas. The variety of wildlife is great.
