Is this a JOKE?No picture here either but here's something on sexing crickets, " ...
Sexing Crickets
How do you distinguish the males from the females? The female cricket has
three long extrusions on her back and fully developed wings. The male cricket has two extrusions. In the female, the extrusion is called the ovipositor. This is the sexual organ of the female cricket and is what is used to lay eggs. The female will stick the ovipositor into the soil and lay eggs. The ovipositor will deposit the eggs beneath the surface of the soil or bedding material you will furnish to house the eggs before hatching ... " Taken from http://www.wormman.com/live_crickets.cfm
He thought you were talking about sexing the cricket. And the way you worded it, it does sound that way. Especially if he did not see the picture. Is this a JOKE?
I can see it just fine, but it's impossible to tell the sex of that T from that picture. Is any one of you able to see the photo I posted?
Yeah you're right. "She" is at least a few moults away from maturity anyway.I can see it just fine, but it's impossible to tell the sex of that T from that picture.
He meant that you CAN NOT tell the sex of a T from a frontal picture. Get a shot of its 'belly'. The underside of the abdomen. Between the first pair of book lungs. Then and only then could we tell the gender of your tarantula.Yeah you're right. "She" is at least a few moults away from maturity anyway.
Hey, hey, please don't insult my intelligence. I knew what he meant. That is why I said " "she" ", and not "she". I call my tarantula a "she" out of pure habit, not of the belief that my T is a female. After Talkenlate04's post I realised "she" is unsexable by simply looking at the photo I posted. And thank you for your condescending post.He meant that you CAN NOT tell the sex of a T from a frontal picture. Get a shot of its 'belly'. The underside of the abdomen. Between the first pair of book lungs. Then and only then could we tell the gender of your tarantula.
If you look at the thread title again, you should realise that the main purpose of this thread was to show pictures of a tarantula I caught. Furthermore, this is the Tarantula Pictures section. If I was posting a thread solely to sex my spider I would not have posted here. As such, this thread is not a "sex my T" thread.Actually, by post #306, you should have at least been around the boards enough to know what is required to sex a tarantula. That post was not condescending, rather a blunt factual statement.
Besides, if the spider is 1" long or so, it should not be a problem to sex it via a molt - I assume it has molted in your care?
AB is filled these days with "sex my T" threads - and the thread includes no usable photos. The pictures are either much like yours, or so blurry as to be useless (as in taken with a camera phone).
What really grates on me is the fact that so few people actually seem to take the time to sex via a molt. A decent magnifying lens isn't that expensive, and a flashlight surly isn't, either. I have photos of a 3/4" G.aureostriata molt that clearly show it to be female. The photos were taken with a 3MP Canon A75 and a magnifying lens held up to the camera lens. Nothing too high tech here.
