Well, our local news is attacking exotic pets tonight. They start off their advertisement for the news story by showing a Rhinocerous Viper, then they go into shots of sugar gliders, ball pythons, bearded dragons and a turtle. No big deal except the title of the story is "Dangerous exotic pets next door." Meh. See their video on their website here...on the left you'll see a link to the video. If you want to, do what I did and write them an email about fair reporting on this topic. You know, for every idiot who keeps these animals there are many repsonsible keepers, etc. Denver has enough restrictions as it is. Thanks.

I know. They are going to ruin it for everybody. I gave them a pretty good earful on that little advertisement alone. After the actual show tonight, I expect to have A LOT more to say.

I am sure that will only fuel the ignorance of the common person. It is beyond me how things like that get blown so far out of proportion.

Denver you say? I don't think you're too far from Pro Exotics. I keep monitor lizards and the best one's I ever purchased came from Robyn over there. They also have ball & blood pythons, boas, and some of the nicest colubrids you could ever want to see. I think they were working with Uros and helioderms at one point too.

Didn't mean to get way off subject there just knew they were out that way.

Yeah, that place rocks. I'm on the south suburban area of Denver and Pro Exotics is up north, but when I do go there I make sure to bring some $$!

help me! i'm being mauled by a rogue sugar glider, i think it's going to tear me open and eat my vital organs! call the hospital!

seriously, i feel sorry for the guy who believes this, there's nothing wrong with an animal like a gaboon viper or medium to large monitor, as long as you don't go sticking your hand up it's throat.

"i was just minding my own buisness, using it's uvula as a punching bad and poking it's tonsils. when, suddenly, it began to attack unprovokedly like the horrible monster it is! i am lucky to be alive right now!"

I actually once watched a nature show on turtles and tortises that played red eared sliders to be the pirannas of the turtle world. theguy shows a pond of about 7 red ears and is saying that he would be afraid to put his hand in there because they would make short work of his flesh. the best part is he then holds a chicken drumstick in and starts saying things about how they are "vicously" and "ravenously" "devouring" the chicken. he talks about how "fast" they can "tear" through the meat. what makes it the best part is that all the time he's sensationalizing this spectacle, the turtles are nibbling at the chicken and it took them about twenty minutes to makea dent in it. if the media diden't hype up the news we woulden't watch. or at least thats what I think is the only excuse for their ignorance.

P.s. don't discredit the agression of bearded dragons I once saw a pack take down a whole buffalo. LOL

what is really funny is i have been attacked and sent to the hospital... by a dog!
as have millions of other ppl... but my goodness! can you imagine if gov'ts tried to ban dogs!?
ppl don't think... and the news knows this :(
and that is why i actively and aggressively avoid the news, newspapers, etc. :)

in all honesty, the article/story wasn't extremely bad and was pointing the blame at irresponsible keepers. They seem to be trying to educate people about laws, which isn't something easily covered.

Yes, as the media does so well, they did leave out some info, but they always do that.

IMO, this was decent coverage.
