How many of you use these roaches for your feeders? I recently bought some! Can your Ts catch em?

I use them for my assassin bugs. The problem with them is that they like to hide. I'm trying to get rid of them so I can switch to a different species that doesn't climb or hide as much.

I have some that i keep in the garage. The trick is to keep them as hot as possible (90+) and good source of food/water. The Texas summer keeps them at a really good temperature. When maintained properly they will breed so fast you will try to sell/trade them off by the hundreds because you have so many. All my T's and scorps catch them with no problem, they are so active that even when they are hiding they move around alot.

My Ts don't have any trouble whatsoever catching them. I've got two colony's of these now. Boy howdy, do they ever breed fast!

Some rockin dude on the AB sent me some in the mail. I like them. I even like to watch them. They can and do climb glass but prefer places to hide and that would be on the bottom of an enclosure. Since all my containers are "roach escape" proof, it's working for me. Tough little suckers. I think it's good to give your stuff a little challenge. I don't have very many T's but I bet they would be good for arboreal T's because of the climbing abilities. Your stuff WILL find them eventually. Of course, you can always kill them or injure them before you feed them to your stuff. My other choice would be Blaptica dubia mentioned in another thread because they can't climb glass. I may try that too. But I'm happy with these.

AH thank you guys! I ordered 250 from a member on these boards. Got them in today. They are wonderful! Im gonna wait awhile till i feed em to my Ts, give em a bit to build up. Then once they start going ill begin feeding off.
Do any of you guys have natural Enclosures? Or are all yours basic. I know Galapoheros has some natural ones.

They're from the Caribbean so you could stick in a coconut shell and a paper umbrella to simulate their natural habitat.

Hehe.
Well my new pede I got today likes em so I can't complain too much. I think my assassin bugs are just lazy.

I got some due to all the praising on these forums. Just my luck that my Ts are picky! Most of them downright refuse to eat them, and a couple just are too lazy to go hunting for them when they burrow in the dirt. Now I have a way-too-huge colony just growing and growing. :wall:

They're called lobster roaches because the pattern on their pronotum is supposed to resemble a lobster. That's what I've heard anyway. People in academic circles refer to them as speckled roaches.

you can always put them in the fridge for a few minutes to slow them down before you feed them to your pets if they're a little too quick for them. they are quick little bugga's o_O we breed them at work and it's amazing how fast an escapee can make it's way up your pants leg

This is the species of roach that I use the most as feeders for my tarantulas....I have never had a spider refuse to eat one. Sometimes they can be a little frustrating with their quickness but I find that a pinch to the head with some tweezers stops that nonsense fairly well.
