almost everything they have is wild caught whether it is vert or invert. The only thing I have bought from them is a lividum and she has been fine so far, I've heard horror stories about them though (mostly from vert purchases however)

I bought dry goods from them 2 years ago and did not have a good experience. Further, they refused to honor credit I have with them since then. I don't recommend them.

hmmmm....I've not had problems with them but I generally just buy their dry goods. Most of my animals are from breeders. I have in the past got a B. smithi, pygmy chameleons and feeder insects, all w/o issues.

Love this quote, is this yours or did you poach it?

My amblypygi arrived dead. Later found out it was wild caught and NOT quarantined!

Just received a retic with mouth rot and my Nile had parasites and passed away. They gave me credit for the retic.

Hey, I am looking for a place in San Diego to find a Aphonopelma Chalcode. I had heard of LLLreptile and see multiple reviews. I’ve seen really good ones and then very bad ones. I was wondering what y’all think of LLLreptile and if they are a good place to get pets from.

i would check the reviews and inquiry and warning sections. As a general rule though, it there are a good number of bad reviews it is probably for a reason...

Never dealt with company in question though.

Most reptile dealers carry tarantulas mainly as a side gig, so they know very little. Generally, its best to buy from vendors who specialize in inverts.

they have a pretty good selection of stuff, however most of their animals are wild caught and have mites. i would buy supplies from them, but not animals. if you can make the drive, the reptile super show in pomona is on the 5th and 6th. i reccomend joe rossi as well as millipedes and more, they are always there. if you cant drive there, theres also one in sand diego, not sure when though, and not sure if the same people are going to be there. also theres repticon that happenes later in the year

when you see lots of places without a single bad or very bad review, why bother with places with bunches of bad reviews.

I second the buy from tarantula people as a general rule. You dont go to the fish store to buy a bird, its no different than buying a t from a reptile place....jmo When specialists exist in fairly large numbers, take advantage.

I've purchased from LLL before. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't. As has been mentioned, a lot of the animals they sell (particularly the larger ones) are wild caught, and some don't necessarily live terribly long - but the same can be said of animals I've purchased at local expos from reputable dealers that focus exclusively (or at least primarily) on inverts, too. With wild caught, it's always a gamble because there's no way to know the age or health of the specimen, and there is always the risk of parasites. Captive bred tend to do better and live longer - but are mostly only available as slings or small juvies. If you want an adult or sub-adult, you're either looking at wild-caught - or a hefty price tag.

LLL usually seems to have a pretty good selection of inverts - mostly the more common species, but I have seen them occasionally bring in something a bit more exotic or unusual. Their prices are a little on the high side (particularly for supplies) compared to the prices I can get from other vendors at the expos - but they aren't horrible, and they do have several convenient locations in SoCal that I can visit any time I need something in a hurry. (I usually go to the Menifee store because it's closer, but I have been to the Mission Valley location, too.) They are also usually one of the major vendors at the SoCal reptile show and expos.

If you can get to the Reptile Supershow in Pomona in January, you'll probably find a better selection and better prices than what you'd get at your local LLL - but with A. chalcodes, there's a pretty good chance that a lot of them will be wild caught anyway, because they're semi-local and can be easily caught a (relatively) short drive away.
