So I'm moving and the garage of my new place is absolutely infested with snakes. I havent personally seen them but others have told me that they always see snakes ranging from 1-5 feet long. I have found many snake skins of different sizes. Some have had noticeable bands on them. Not sure what that could be. But I have a pregnant cat that I found as a stray that will be staying in my garage with her litter until they are old enough to give away. I have heard that large black rats can eat a squirrel so I know a newborn kitten would be no problem. I just want to capture the snakes to relocate them. Does anybody know where I can buy a cheap live snake trap that could hold up to a 6 foot snake?

This place in GA sells them, and has videos of catching Water Snakes(including one huge to-die-for Hypo Midland)and Copperheads in them, so they swear the traps work. They ARE expensive, though-$150.00 for an X-large trap, which you'd need to catch a big Black Rat. That is most likely the species of snakes you have in your new place, although I wouldn't use the word "infested". That makes it sound like a lot of snakes is a bad thing, and I absolutely don't see it that way. I'd use the term "blessed with a lot of snakes". The mama cat will probably protect her kittens from the snakes, and I'd worry far more about the cats harming the snakes, than the other way around. Harmless reptiles are top of the list of animals that cats kill, which is why so many herpers dislike cats intensely. You CAN build a snake trap fairly easily, though, using the same basic plan as the one in the link here: http://www.bugspraycart.com/traps/cage/snake-trap-xl-24-x-22-x-12 , using a wire funnel and some mouse or rat bedding to attract the snakes. DO NOT use those glue board traps; I don't care what anyone tells you, there is NOTHING humane about those things! I've seen snakes horribly injure themselves, ripping out their eyeballs and tongues and tearing skin and muscle down to their internal organs, struggling to get free of those things, and even Pam or cooking oil releases the glue slowly, still allowing the snake time to injure itself even more. Unless someone gets to the snake immediately after it is caught, it's likely to sustain at least some skin tearing. If I were you, though, I'd leave the snakes where they are and put the cat inside the house until her kittens are too big to be snake food.

Just do it the easy way. Get a snake hook and some collecting bags. Drive a stake in the ground in an open area. Chain your baby sister or reasonable equivalent to the stake. When you hear a scream, run out and collect the snake.
