Hello All!
I've got two female Madagascar Hissing roaches that I've had for about a year and figured it was time to give them a bit of an upgrade. (They're around 2 1/2 - 3 years though)
They're currently in a ten-gallon aquarium. 20' length, 10' width, 12' height. They've got a wire lid (small holes) but am considering getting a glass lid to help keep moisture in. They're in a darker corner and the room stays in the 70-degree range. And their substrate is coconut fiber.
Next time I run by the petstore (lots of critters.. lol) I was going to look at their driftwood choices and find a piece. I'm going to try for a more natural environment.
What small plants would be good for this enclosure though? And ones that are safe for them?
I was looking at sphagnum moss, clover, and dandelion. I had read on another forum that they can eat dandelion so I figured it was safe for them, and somewhere else said that clover is safe as well. I know sphagnum moss is, I have dried stuff in there now.
Thoughts on this? Should I not use those plants, are there better plants to use?
And is there anything else I'd need?
I know they'll possibly eat the plants, but I read that giving them lots of fruits and leafy stuff will help to cut down on the chances of that. They've been on a diet of that, dog kibble, fish food, dried chicken, and ceral here and there since I've had them, so I think that's currently good? And if they do nibble I don't have an issue with it, I just don't want them to drop over..
Thanks!!
