While just lurking on so many good, insightful posts of @RezonantVoid, @basin79 over the years, it got me interesting enough to finally order one of the Liphistius sp Suwat.

Such a gorgeous spider to begin with I couldn’t agree more.

Just a little shy of two days, before it even attempted to make a trap door, it molted. Well, actually, it tried to molt, and got stuck, When I found out, it was a bit too late to even intervene.

I did what I could to free it at least, but it was already long gone.

very sad, i have been eying these primeval spiders for a while

do you think the lack of a burrow caused the mismolt? Or was it just bad luck?

How long have you had it?

I think it's just a an unfortunate case for a bad molt.

My big question. Do males even exist for Liphistius sp. suwat and the other others that have been imported? There is like all females and no males coming in.

Damn that's such bad luck.

These are such an interesting type of Arachnid. I hope you have better luck next time.

I've lost some absolute stunners to failed molts, sometimes high shifts in temperature and humidity can trigger premature ones which are basically always fatal.

I still use the deceased spider as practice for molt surgery though. It's rare to get an opportunity to perform such a procedure, at least on a deceased spider you don't need to stress about accidentally damaging them

Looks like the same thing that killed my Ts who got stuck molts .. bad luck and or not a big enough molt mat?? Some molted before they settled in .
