I keep some of my specimens for almost a year... and they still look very good.
The most difficult thing is to feed spiderlings. They are so small that you can give them only small flies and mites.
I use standard boxes (used to storage photo camera films) as terrariums. They collect water from food.

Hi,

that sounds interesting to me, what´s "pretty huge" by jumper-standards in your opinion?

The nice thing about native jumping spiders is that you can keep them as free-range "pets" just by keeping a few houseplants on your windowsill. I've had a jumper since the early spring that lives in the potted sage on my windowsill. I see it almost every day.

heh, that's rad!

i've had a few free-range pets of various natures, similar to that

it's kind of a different high, since they stay of their own accord :)

free range wouldnt work because of a wife who dont like spiders and kids who would be too interested. but i wish i could

i have several free range house spiders on the window on the outside

and for a while i did have a argiope aurantia for a bit but it bailed shortly after laying its egg sac that remains out in the bush . i considered trying to hatch it inside but i dunno what temps to keep it at and what humidity it takes. sooooo hopefully the neighbor kids will leave it alone.

oh also i have free range orb weavers in the back yard . well they pulled the same as the argiope and bailed after laying eggs

well i dunno if they bailed or died but either way they are gone
