hi i have some questions about leo's. I don't have one but i really like them & thinking about maybe getting one.

first i have a hot house, in the summer the room I would be keeping them in gets 95 sometimes & to my knowledge that too hot! but is it really?

can they eat on dubias? some ppl say that you can only feed them freshly molted (white) dubia b.c the gecko wouldn't be able to swallow them.

heat tape questions. I'm really don't know any thing on it, and even though i do research i usually over buy and waste a bunch of money on shizz b.c I get worried. im just wandering what exactly to get.

the last question i have is how are they for eating? i heard some times you have to force feed them, I realize its an individual thing, but how common is it for them to fast?

Im a reptile virgen.

i used to breed them and golden geckos.

-the house is actually a decent temperature for keeping them. they can stand those temps, just if it gets cold in the winter put a heatmat down when its cold. take it off when its warm and it should be fine. if needed try to make one side of the tank cooler to regulate the lizards temperature (i would think keeping one side of the tank in a shady area would help)

-yes they can eat B dubya but the young geckos cant. as far as i know its the same concept as mealworms where the younger lizards cant digest the insect fully. the adults can though. rule of thumb for feeding it to not feed anything bigger then the space between the geckos eyes.

-as for heat tape: answered above and the heat mat brand i use is zoomed. personnally i had better experience with them then with other mats.

- they're pretty good eaters. they really dont fast at all unless sick.
if you feed them alot of course they might stop eating but they'll pick up eating again as soon as there hungry.

goodluck if you get one. i still have one thats a snow/blizzard het. they are a nice pet that doesnt require alot of maintenence if you take proper care of them. :)

EDIT: also there is a great book out by a guy named ron tremper that i have. its the best guide to raising leopard geckos. its alittle pricy though. dont remember the exact name.

there is a cheeper one called "the leopard gecko manual" by philippe de vosjoli with roger klingenburg, ron tremper, and brian viets as well, that one should cover basics at least.

I have honestly never had to force-feed a leo unless it was very very sick. Fasting is one thing and is a natural occurrence that does not require any forced feeding. Starvation to the point of losing any muscle and fat definition is not and is entirely different from fasting. The force-feeding itself is very hard on leos and I noticed it usually does more harm than good to the little guys.

Yeah retail is always going to be more expensive than getting them from a breeder. So unless you really like that individual, just hold out and buy from a private breeder.
