I've decided to post a few pictures of my little slow worm Eirinn. Slow worms are legless lizardsfound in Europe and my one has become very friendly in the 7 years I've had her (they can live up to 50 years old).

Oh my God oh my God Oh my God oh my God it's a FINGER!

"Now if only I could break this glass I could munch that finger"

This is her being a scary worm

This is the innocent look that comes after the scary look

cuddling into my hand

A very funny pet to own

Hi Crunchie
I have a pair of scheltopusik too! I really enjoy them, they are very interesting.
I'm shocked at the color of yours! Why is it so dark? With my two, the little one is quite pale, but now showing some red, and the large one has quite a lot of red on a tan background. Hence his name, Rouge. :)
The little one, shown here in an old pic, is named Rocket. She is extremely friendly, and doesn't barrel roll when picked up.

They are both skilled climbers and live in a four by four by four cage with a lot of branches. They eat F/T mice for the most part. And eggs and thawed out roaches the rest of the time.
D.

Hi there! I think you have the giant variety, mine is only a common European one Anguis fragilis is the latin name and I think your species is a lot bigger than my wee one.

I used to have one of these when I was a kid and she was a sweetheart, no biting no aggression whatsoever.
I looked into these recently to see if they are illegal to own as I really want another one, it turns out they are fine to own but selling or trading them is a big no no as they are sort of protected, so I decided to give them a miss :(

Very cool little critter though Crunchie, I'm jealous *we need a green with envy smiley*

Mine is very tame and does seek to be given attention. When someone enters the room where I keep her viv she will quickly dart to the front of the cage to see what she can see. {D
However at feeding time she'll bite anything that moves, in saying that their bark is worse than their bite and of the 20 or so times I've "allowed myself" to be bitten she hasn't drawn blood yet and the bite doesn't really hurt.

The smaller European ones seem to be very hardy, I've had Eirinn for 7 years and have only had her at the vet once (nd was then told there was nothing wrong with her). Doesn't really need much in the way of heating in the cage either.

This is a wee experiment, these files are in .mov format but I took a few video clips of her trying to bite through the glass but they take a while to load. THe third one is her taking a slug from my fingers, dropping it and then attacking me as I retrieve it for her.

can you put it with other reptiles in the same tank? like gecko's, or maybe bearded dragons? :)

I dont think so as slow worms don't like direct lights and don't need it very hot. I guess if you lived in the UK you could try mixing them with things like common lizards but like all UK reptiles it's illegal to trade them too. :(
