Well, I've only recently become interested in beetles after viewing some pictures on another forum of atlas beetles. I asked the person if they were hard to keep and and he said no, and suggested I start out with Pachnoda marginata peregrina. I researched them and am very excited about the possibility of keeping them.

However, I've noticed a few posts regarding beetles that are illegal in the US. :wall:

Are fruit beetles illegal in the US? What is?

All non-native beetles are illegal unless the proper permits and facilities are available.

See this post and this post.

While the second asks about assassins and phasmids, beetles are governed by the same act (Plant Pest Act).

That's a downer.

Hmm. I guess I should look into native species then. No way a 15 year old would be able to get a permit.

Heh, from what I hear age probably doesnt matter much. The permits are next to impossible to get anyway.

Where do you live. I know CA, and some other states have our own version of the fruit beetle.

Long Island, New York.

Are the laws the same for mantids? My uncle used to breed and release native species when they were threatened, according to him.
