My male variolus has just molted to maturiy about a day ago, and I just introduced him to a female. I've been watching for about half an hour now and although he hasn't been attacked, he hasn't actively gone for her either.

I was wondering what typical behavior to look for to know whether or not I should keep trying or try with my other female? So far he's been walking around her web, adding to it, and rewrapping her stored crickets. Meanwhile, she knows he's there, as she's been drumming her abdomen on the web every now and then, but other than that, there hasn't been any obvious interest shown by either of them.

Do males in the Lactrodectus need to make sperm webs like Tarantulas? If he only matured a day ago, did he have time to do so??

All spiders make a sperm web. Buth sometimes it's that small you don't even notice it. I should give him a few days before you try them to mate.
