Lasiodora cristatus?

I'm seeing a few threads recently regarding the question as to whether or not this is the "true" Lasiodora cristatus, or the "pet trade" Lasiodora cristatus.

Martin:

Your posts in several threads regarding this question have been very helpful, but the information is somewhat scattered between threads. I was hoping to provide you a single thread to conglomorate your information in one place, while at the same time asking everyone else who has additional taxonomic info to please include it here. With the number of people recently purchasing these, I thought it would be a very helpful thread.

Being only "hobbyist level" as opposed to what I can only call "professional level" enthusiast, and having recently gotten a sling of what was sold as "Lasiodora cristatas", also by common name "White Stripe Bird Eater" from the source where I purchased mine, (though I've seen other common names for it in other places, which I already know are sometimes worse than useless), I'm very interested in learning if this is a case of an unidentified T being erroniously placed under an already used name, or if this is a situation of a T being actually missidentified as something other than what it is? If the latter is the case, I'd like to know we are all actually buying?

ME TOO:D

I plan on purchasing a few of these T's at my next local
show. Well, 4 of them anyway and I'd like to have as much
info as possible about them:)

Hello?

...I've seen half a dozen threads about this T that got taken off topic and wound up becoming about this aspect of the matter, and now that there is a thread started specificly FOR this aspect of it, no one has anything to say?

Hi Telson,
As far as I remember, there is a Lasiodora cristata, but that is not what gets sold as Lasiodora cristata in the pet trade.
The pet trade spider is a different Lasiodora sp. as yet undescribed.

That's the situation to the best of my knowledge anyway.

EDIT:
Good info in ---->this<---- thread

I know what the pet trade "Lasiodora" cristatas looks like, so does anyone have a link to a pic of the REAL cristatas? I'd like to know what the difference is.

nope, the genus of the pet trade species is not 100% known yet. See the link >>click here<< you posted and the quoted mail from Dr. Rogerio BERTANI in it: "...However, the question involving the position of this species is not so easy. It shares characters with Vitalius, Lasiodora and Nhandu. Only a analysis including all species of these genera will demonstrate where it should be included. Together with the revision of Lasiodora, I am working on this question. I hope shortly to give an answer. ..."

all the best,
Martin
