I live in NW Florida, and i can only recall ever seeing two kinds of large roaches. The first kind is the superfast roaches with wings, that are common in houses and around garbage. Granted, the ones I'm describing might actually be more than one species, but I don't care.

What i'm wondering about, though, is a large roach that i see much less frequently. It is wingless, and pretty slow-moving. I also hardly ever see them, and when I do see them they're always outside walking through leaves and sticks and crap. It's about 1.5"-2" long, and it looks sort of like one of those Madagascan hissing cockroaches. Also, I just found another one, and i decided to catch it since I hardly ever see them. It was walking on my hand, then it got to the end of my hand and jumped off. So, while this roach can't fly, it does jump short distances.

Anyway, if anyone knows what kind of roach this is, please let me know.

Eurycotis floridana
E. floridana would have been my guess without the pic, but the pic makes it certain.

Ah, one of my favorite roaches. If you check it out and make it produce "the odor" you will find it will be quite strong but not a stinky roach smell. Kind of smells like cherries and amaretto, I fed two adults to a blue tongue skink and my bedroom had a pungent cherries smell for hours! Ah, natural inscense, what could be better?
