Large adult OBT = Easiest. Rehousing. Ever. (No, Seriously)

So this afternoon I entered with some trepidation into the task of rehousing my big adult female P murinus Molly Ringwald pictured here...

From her cramped old house...

To something a bit roomier so she and her arranged-marriage husband can get more comfortable...

Now, I have my tongs, mini-spatula, catch cups and assorted 'just in case' tools laid about the big tub I use for rehousings. I'm also shut in the bathroom with a towel under the door; again, just in case.

I pop the top...

I'm thinking; Step one, tear up excess webbing and plastic plant leaves that basically make up her burrow.

The plan is to dig and tug until either I expose her to the elements or she comes out swinging at which point she gets either pushed into the new enclosure or cupped, lifted and dropped there.

To my surprise, when i grab some webbing with the tongs, the entire burrow lifts up in one piece. :?

Ok... I pause, shrug my shoulders, get a better grip w/ the tongs and lift the entire burrow and plop it down into the new box.

Done and done.

Who'da thunk that a rather large adult P murinus ('bout 6") would be the very easiest rehousing i've ever done? :D :D :D

haha, that's how i rehoused 7 2" OBTs.

it's like they're all wrapped up in neat little packages, just for your convenience! :D

I'm keeping this in mind for setup of smaller, still growing heavy webbers like P murinus, C cyaneopubescens, etc. If I don't put anything heavy in there like a stick then pulling the whole burrow should (could) be easy. Plus once moved they're still in a familiar environment even though they have a whole new tank.

Yeah, I'm usually flying solo which makes this added line of defense that much more comforting for me, even though I've yet to actually need it. Rehousings generally go more smoothly than I anticipate. Never THIS smooth though.

LOL! I've done that--it's easy to move the ones sitting in their webbed burrows--just pick up and drop into new home.
