Anyone in the northeast have an infestation of lanternfly's near them?

I work in CT and there's one "tree of heaven" in our lot. This attracts so many lanternfly's and my co-workers and I capture hundreds per week.

Anyone have any luck raising them? I'm always looking for feeder alternatives.

Cut down the Ailanthus altissima, collect/kill individuals, don’t move cut down tree and with address/coordinates notify state of the infestation

Notified the state already, didn't cut down the tree yet. I really do have to admit that collecting them is super satisfying.

Put a water bottle over their heads and they pop right in lol. We have hundreds of kills under our belt.

There really seems like no answer to eradicating them, it's concerning. Sure you can make some traps but that will only do so much.

Well, not with that attitude.
C'mon people, what country is this?
What happened to that good 'ol American spirit?
We're not talking about world peace or anything like that; we're talking about doing what Americans like to do best, killin' stuff.
We've successfully killed off or expatriated bison, rabbits, people, passenger pigeons, cougars and how many other species?
We can do it again!
So grab yer' gun and have some fun; for America!
Or if you're in a populated area mabye just crush it with your hand or something..........

Funny you say that. Coworker actually got one of those salt guns, takes a few hits but they work pretty good!

I'd forgotten about those; I gave a friend one a year or two ago and it sits in the corner of his shop.
This is in Kansas though, so I can't try it on a lantern fly yet, but the way things are going it looks like I'll get the chance in a few more years.

At work (in New York) I hadn't seen any up by Albany, but when we went down to New York city they were everywhere by JFK airport. I'll have to see if I can pick up a salt gun to keep at work.
Hopefully I can get one in New York without a permit.

Acquire a pressure washer, powerful. Inject laundry detergent or similar surfactant into the water. Apply liberally to the infected tree. Bask in glory as they suffocate.
The more frequently the insect must resperate, the more effective. If available, use wet water as we use in fire fighting. It's also sticky. A high pressure quick attack is the purr of the cat.
