pics soon. Found a red ant queen at my black light. She measures 3/4 inch long.
I also found multiple smaller winged red ants in the area I thought might be males (or another type of queen) Im by annaoplis MD if anyone knows what the species might be.

ok, update time. the smaller winged ant was "talking" to the larger on via there antenna and appeared to share food (or hes the reincarnation of the crocodile hunter and wanted to put his head between her mandibles) When I woke up i found them resting side by side. Any idea on making an enclosure with food? I really dont want to F things up this time, then again last time I thought I had a few queens they turned out to be males, lol. pics will be up as soon as my mom wakes up and tells me were the camera is.

Well if she haven't taken off her wings by now she probably isn't fertilized. For now try to see if you have a CD case with the inside removed and cover the sides with damp paper towels and hope for the best.

last night she took off her wings, i have her and 4 males in a temporary container, In fact I'm working on her enclosure as we speak. I'm using a fish tank and hot gluing plastic sheet about 1/4 inch away from the walls so that i can see there tunnels etc. And I'm gonna have a few plants on top, at least one of them with aphids cause i know most ants like them. But I'll use a plastic lid to place in new food as needed. I'm thinking a piece of dog food, gel from a space ant colony, and a cotton ball soaked in very watered down honey or maple syrup (or other fruit juices). Now, back to work.:D

ok, i only have gel from one that my friend got for me. I just use it as a supliment for her diet, but she seems more interested in the piece of dog food.

my queen escaped :(
any chance any other marylanders picked some up while they were out?

I didnt think my queen would leave her tunnel and then climb the sides and squeeze out the temporary plastic wrap lid. next time i'll keep her in a seald container until she starts putting out.
